I'm coming to your house.

You all remember that childhood song:

Zacchaeus was a wee little man, and a wee little man was he.
He climbed up in a sycamore tree, for the Lord he wanted to see.
And as the Savior passed him by, He looked up in the tree,
And he said, "Zacchaeus, you come down;
For I'm going to your house today,
For I'm going to your house today.

I think it's missing an ending though. How about:

And on the way, Zacchaeus said,
I'm selling half I got.
And those I've wronged I'll give a lot,
Cuz I am changed you see.
Salvation's come to me.
Salvation's come to me.

Last night I put my name into the story instead of Zacchaeus and what I realized was that Christ was coming to my house, unplanned! I thought, was Zacchaeus ready? I'll admit, I suspected. Is that why Zacchaeus stopped along the way and declared a yard sale and a payback time? Was he ashamed of what Christ would find? I doubt it. The story seems to bleed heart change and joy in the giving. It just made me think.

Would I be ready if Christ was coming to my house today? Would I be embarrassed of anything? What kind of promises might I make along the way? Then, I thought. Jesus is in my house today! It just helps to actually imagine that every once in a while. Yeah, yeah, He'll never leave us or forsake us, but I'm afraid that just becomes a cute Bible verse or an encouragement in time of trouble. Richard Wormbrant used to pray and talk with Jesus like He was sitting in the chair across from Him. Maybe it's a reality check that we all need.

Imagine Jesus Christ is coming to YOUR house today!
