Just 3 and a half years ago Rebekah and I were childless. Now we have 5! Life's been a bit crazy lately, hence the slowing down of the blogs. You can see from the last post that Momma's pregnant. In addition, we've officially adopted 2 as of March 2nd!
We didn't know what we were getting into to, but who does when they have kids?
Suddenly we have a 9 year old. Suddenly we have daily appointments. Suddenly we have children who can walk and talk, but have barely been trained in how to behave. Suddenly our time and money and energy are maxed. It all happened rather quickly. From the moment we started to foster these boys, they had our last name in less than 10 months.
Now, more than ever have we adjusted our lives. In order of importance: God, spouse, children, brotherhood and the world. Before we covered all those bases somewhat evenly. Now, there's more ministry to be had closer to "home". It's been quite the adjustment for us as we've always been so outreach oriented. We're still adjusting and accepting that our outreach is just 10 ft away from our own beds.
Now, we struggle to cover the Lord, each other and our children. With the morsels that are left we encourage the brotherhood and attempt a Gospel proclamation. It's an interesting season in our lives, I know. Perhaps it's a time of investment to future world changers.
I'll always be encouraged by a comment my dear friend Will Tucker made to me. He encouraged me not to sweat about camp as much, and said, "you got your camp right here" and he motioned to my 4 boys running on ahead of us. Ain't that the truth. We get caught up looking for something different, something bigger, something "great" and we miss the opportunity right in front of us.
It reminds me of a line in a song, "life is what happens when we're busy making other plans." I've got to lighten up a bit. Take some pressure off and enjoy the ride.
